2 cocktails: 8 cl goya fruit juice, 4 cl rum, 4 cl vodka, 1 cl Cointreau.

With greetings from Japan and in pursuit of new bitter tastes that can be used in cocktails. The goya fruit looks like a cucumber and belongs to the same family of plants. But its skin has a distinct bitterness which we here use for this simple, non-refined cocktail.

Squeeze about 8 cl of juice from the green skin parts, for example using a garlic press. Mix this juice with either 4 cl of rum or 4 cl vodka for the brown and green variety of this concoction, respectively. For sweetness add a dash of Cointreau each. Add ice and stir. Done.

Because of limited resources at the time of its inception this is not a particularly refined recipe. The taste is interesting nonetheless and warrants further exploration. Future experimentation will have to show if similar flavors can be extracted from the much thinner skin of cucumbers in the grocery store back home.

Zum Wohl, cheers, enjoy.

Naming Cocktails

is like naming your baby.

Well, actually it isn't. Coming up with cocktail names is fun and of no consequence, giving you all the freedom you like.

If you like it cheesy, funny or mysterious, these names are born out of the moment, the mood of the (cocktail) hour if you like.

The Quality

of your ingredients makes all the difference.

Take a whiff from a bottle of some popular Gin types in your nearest sports bar and compare to the smell of one like Monkey 47, for example. You'll be blown away by the latter, I promise.

Think twice before trying to save a few bucks on inferior spirits.
