An evening with New Orleans' 'Spotted Cat'

2 cocktails: 6 cl rum, 6 cl vermouth, 6 cl Grand Marnier, 6 cl peach juice, 1 cl cassis, 2 amarena cherries, 2 cl amarena cherry syrup, ice.

This is probably the deepest, heaviest and most complex cocktail creation so far discussed in this blog. It was inspired by a visit to New Orleans' 'Spottet Cat'. On that particular evening this joint featured - among others - the 'Jumbo Shrimp', a fantastic New Orleans Jazz quartet. Check them out on their webpage or, if you are lucky, on a live feed from 'The Spotted Cat'.

As always, 'Don Papa' is our choice flavoured rum. It works wonderfully in this powerful concoction. Cassis, a liquor which in my opinion rarely makes sense in cocktails because it tends to overpower whatever other tastes there may be finally finds its use here. It nicely blends in unexpected ways with the Amarena cherries, the syroup and the rum. Mix liquids with ice, pour and add Amarena cherries. Enjoy this explosion of tropical tastes.

Zum Wohl, cheers, enjoy.

Naming Cocktails

is like naming your baby.

Well, actually it isn't. Coming up with cocktail names is fun and of no consequence, giving you all the freedom you like.

If you like it cheesy, funny or mysterious, these names are born out of the moment, the mood of the (cocktail) hour if you like.

The Quality

of your ingredients makes all the difference.

Take a whiff from a bottle of some popular Gin types in your nearest sports bar and compare to the smell of one like Monkey 47, for example. You'll be blown away by the latter, I promise.

Think twice before trying to save a few bucks on inferior spirits.
